Mrs. Stanbery is a Math teacher at Heritage High School who has spent the past fifteen years inspiring students to love math! Mrs. Stanbery was presented with flowers by Superintendent Dr. Paul McKendrick during her math class. Mrs. Stanbery believes that “all children can learn mathematics”. Teaching is coaching to Mrs. Stanbery and with patience and humor, she strives to maximize each student’s potential. She will be recognized at the Lynchburg City School Board Regular Meeting, Tuesday, May 1 at 5:30 p.m. and at the Lynchburg City Schools Staff Appreciation Celebration, Wednesday, May 16 at Lynchburg College.
Each year the Lynchburg City Schools participates in the Virginia Teacher of the Year Program. The goal of the program is to recognize dedicated, knowledgeable, and skilled teachers at the local, regional, and state levels.
To select the Lynchburg City Schools Teacher of the Year, the school division uses a nomination procedure whereby school staffs, principals, or school division administrators nominate teachers for this honor. The nominated teachers are then interviewed by a team of administrators and past teachers of the year. The team gives special consideration for the following characteristics: experience in the division and the field of teaching, professional development activities, classroom performances, professional organizations and community involvement.
