Lynchburg City Schools administrators have met today regarding the recent MRSA situation that has developed in neighboring school divisions. Lynchburg City Schools believes it is important to make parents, staff and students aware of the preventive measures that the school division has in place for an infection such as MRSA. To date, we have had no reported student cases of MRSA. Lynchburg City Schools performs routine cleaning and disinfecting of all of our school buildings on an on-going basis and we will continue to monitor and perform our routine schedule. With recent events of MRSA cases in the area, we are enhancing our regular efforts with the following:

• distribution of MRSA facts and information to all employees including school administrators, nurses and athletic directors;
• LCS administrators have been in discussions with our local health department and doctors who suggest that we continue our routine cleaning and disinfecting and these efforts should be sufficient in our proactive approach to curtail MRSA appearing in our classrooms and on our campuses;
• during the next several evenings, custodians will do additional cleaning and disinfecting of common areas throughout the school buildings to include, but not be limited too, water fountains, cafeterias, gymnasiums, and other athletic areas such as locker rooms and weight rooms;
• additional information will be shared with students regarding the importance of maintaining good personal hygiene habits such as washing hands and not sharing personal items;
• the school division will refer parents to information websites to learn more about MRSA preventive measures –

We will continue to be proactive in our efforts and we will make parents, students and staff aware of any future updates and information.
