School Bus Driver

Lynchburg City Schools has openings for school bus drivers. Candidates must be 18 years of age or older, and possess (or be willing to obtain) a VA Commercial Drivers License.

  1. Candidates are paid, tutored and trained to obtain their Commercial Drivers License (CDL).
  2. Starting pay during training is $7.80 per hour.
  3. Pay increase received after successful completion of training.
  4. Contract offers are based upon previous bus driving experience.
  5. Applicants must also have a medical exam, a drug screening, and must pass an extensive DMV and criminal background check.

Instructions for Completing Application

All persons interested in applying for the School Bus Driver position should submit a completed online classified employment application and forward the reference forms (PDF) to three job references. Completed reference forms should be returned to the Lynchburg City Schools’ Personnel Department.

Applicants are required to submit via mail the following supporting documentation: a letter of interest, a resume, and the name and phone number of three (3) job references to the Department of Personnel, P.O. Box 2497, Lynchburg, VA 24505-2497 to the attention of Brenda Hines.
