New Teachers Get Geared Up!
Lynchburg City School’s newest teachers were officially welcomed to the family on Tuesday (August 12, 2008). Administrators held a breakfast for them at Lynchburg College.
There are 69 new teachers coming aboard this year – a low number of hires in comparison to past years. This is due, in large part, to the school system’s ability to retain quality, veteran teachers. These newest educators come from 33 different colleges. However, half of them are veterans, making the move from other school systems. Thirty-one of these teachers have master’s degrees and at least one has a doctorate.
At the breakfast, Vice School Board Chairman Tom Webb called these teachers “the cream of the crop”. Webb says the pool of applicants was more than 600 strong. The 69 were picked because of their dedication to children.
We welcome our new teachers to LCS and wish them luck!
