NFF Honors Glass Student as “National Student of the Month”

An E.C. Glass High School Senior is the March Play It Smart National Student of the Month. The National Football Foundation determined, football standout, Orlando “OJ” Robey, Junior was worthy of the honor after representatives read his heartfelt essay. In that essay, OJ described how the Glass’s Play It Smart program helped him to realize that college was an attainable goal. Because of OJ’s renewed hope he began to take academics seriously.
Now, OJ hopes to spend two years at a Community College and then transfer to a four year college. This year, thanks to the Play It Smart program, he made honor roll for the first time in his high school career. His academic coach, Gavin Davis, says OJ is a great example of what the program can do for an athlete, “he understands that he might still have a chance to play football, but that he will have a chance to receive a college degree. Orlando is what the Play It Smart program is all about and the play It Smart officers feel that his story will encourage other student-athletes across the country.”
OJ was picked to be the March Play It Smart National Student of the Month from a pool of 160 candidates in 33 states. Read more about OJ and his winning essay.
