One of the biggest compliments a teacher can get is to find out one of her students is going to become one. That is probably why the two youngest – pardon me – least experienced guests at the Lynchburg Retired Teachers Association Scholarship Awards Luncheon were getting the most attention.

On May 8, 2009, during the luncheon, Jessica Austin, a senior at Heritage High School and Anna Fairchild, a senior at E.C. Glass High School received E.C. Glass Future Teacher Scholarships, each for $2500. Anna also earned the $500 Edith B. Lee Scholarship, awarded to one future teacher at E.C. Glass every year. Both students were honored for their dedication to assisting fellow students and potential to become teachers.

Jessica Austin plans to attend Lynchburg College and major in English and drama. Anna Fairchild plans to attend the University of Virginia and major in English. Both girls have plans to teach once they graduate.
