Student Excellence Celebrated During Annual Dinner
The top 15 seniors from both Heritage and E.C. Glass High Schools were honored for their academic dedication during a dinner at Lynchburg College the first week of June. Each student invited the teacher who has been most influential in their academic career thus far. During dinner students heard from the Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Paul McKendrick, Chairman of the Lynchburg City School Board, Julie Doyle, Associate General Counsel at Genworth Financial, Mary Barney, and Lynchburg City Schools Education Foundation President, Jodi Gillette. At the end of the dinner each student received a Certificate of Academic Excellence.
These 30 seniors earned a total of $2.2 million in scholarships. They will be attending the following institutes of higher learning: Brown University, Yale University, Boston College, Duke University, the University of Virginia, the University of Portland, Virginia Tech University, University of Chicago, Washington and Lee University, Lynchburg College, Augustana College, N.C. State University, Washington University, Sweet Briar College, Florida State University and Central Virginia Community College.
This is the fifth year that the Lynchburg City Schools’ Education Foundation, Inc. has held the dinner. Special thanks goes to Genworth Financial for co-sponsoring the event.
