The Heritage High School Band has been named a Commonwealth of Virginia Honor Band for the 2010-2011 school year by the Virginia Band and Orchestra Director’s Association. This award recognizes superior achievement in all areas of the band program. In order to be considered for the award, the band must have received a superior rating at the two events sponsored by the Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association. These events are the State Marching Band Assessment, which was held in October and the District VI Concert Band Assessment which was in March. The band received not only a superior rating at both festivals, but high accolades from all of the judges and audiences for their outstanding performances.

This award is the eighth time the Heritage High School Band has been recognized and the fourth time in the past five years. “I am very proud of the efforts of all of the students and parents of our program. They have put together a tremendous year on the field and in the classroom. We are very appreciative of the wonderful support of our administrative team and community supporters, which helps in making recognition like this possible. This award brings much recognition to our school and school district from the band community,” comments Director of Bands Mike Hand. “Simply stated, it recognizes the Heritage High School Band program as one of the best in the state.”
