During National Volunteer Appreciation Week, Lynchburg City Schools is celebrating and honoring our volunteers, who, throughout the year, partner with educators to help students grow and learn. Education is challenging and costly, and volunteers enhance the quality of our schools.

Throughout the year, parents and other community members take time out of their busy schedules to help out in the classrooms, on field trips, and other activities that would not be possible without a helping hand.

Volunteers have experience, knowledge, and skills that are valuable to LCS. They have a lasting impact on our children.

These schools are hosting special events to show their appreciation:

Bedford Hills Elementary: On Thursday, April 19th from 4:00-5:00 p.m., the staff and faculty will host a reception in the cafeteria called "Cheers to our Volunteers," where staff will bring a dish, finger food or appetizer, and joint committees will provide set-up, serving, clean-up, paper products, drinks and a sheet cake.

Heritage Elementary: The school will host a volunteer reception to honor our volunteers. The theme will be “Finger Foods for Helping Hands!”  Students will read poetry to volunteers, and students from all grade levels will be interviewed in advance to give their thoughts about the volunteers. Those thoughts will be shared at the reception. The students will have prepared canvas totes with their handprints painted on them and each will say "Thanks for your helping hands!" The totes will be presented to each volunteer.

Dearington Elementary School for Innovation: Volunteers will be invited to the school and presented with certificates and an appreciation gift. Classes will thank volunteers in various ways with cards and acknowledgements.

Linkhorne Elementary:  On Friday, April 20th, the school will host a Volunteer Breakfast from 8:45-9:30 a.m. in the LES library with favors for each volunteer. Teachers are sending notes of thanks to their volunteers, and a banner will be displayed in front of the school thanking volunteers.

Perrymont Elementary School: On Friday, April 20th, the school is hosting a Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast at 8 a.m. in the school library.

Sheffield Elementary: On April 24th at 6:30 p.m., the school will host a Volunteer Appreciation Dinner in the cafeteria.

This is just a small way that Lynchburg City Schools can acknowledge the hard work and dedication of volunteers. Their efforts are appreciated all year long.
