Seven Lynchburg City Schools students were selected to first chair at the annual All-District Middle School Band tryouts held at Brookville Middle School in January.

Sandusky Middle School had three students chosen for first chair, the most in the district, and Paul Laurence Dunbar Middle School for Innovation and Linkhorne Middle School each had two students earn the spot.

More than 400 students from all over the region, including Lynchburg, Danville, Roanoke and Blacksburg, competed for positions in the All-District Band. A total of 23 LCS students were chosen for the group and will participate in the All-District Band event on February 15-16 at Cave Spring High School in Roanoke. They will work with a leading conductor and present a concert.

Paul Laurence Dunbar Middle School for Innovation

  • Kurt Cox - 1st Chair Alto Sax, Symphonic Band
  • Ethan Pitts - 4th Chair Bassoon, Symphonic Band
  • Jacob Selden - 1st Chair French Horn, Concert Band
  • Maria Wray - 7th Chair Flute, Concert Band

Linkhorne Middle School

  • Tegan Moore - 20th Chair Clarinet, Concert Band
  • Bryson Gearhardt - 1st Chair Tenor Sax, Concert Band
  • Daniel Simon - 2nd Chair Trumpet, Symphonic Band
  • Umair Hasan - 5th Chair Trumpet, Symphonic Band
  • Emma Podosek - 8th Chair Trumpet, Symphonic Band
  • Rachel Cate - 1st Chair Trombone, Symphonic Band
  • Alec Terrell - 7th Chair Trombone, Symphonic Band
  • Emily Howard - 4th Chair Tuba, Symphonic Band
  • Jackson Hanowitz - 5th Chair Percussion, Concert Band

    (if one of the 8 bass clarinets that made cannot fulfill their obligation the 1st alternate gets to go)
