MusicThanks to generous community support, the E. C. Glass Chamber Singers have reached their adjusted goal of $36,000 to fund their trip to New York.

Earlier in the school year, the talented group of singers received an invitation to perform in Carnegie Hall. While the invitation was an honor, the group had their work cut out for them to not only prepare for the performance of a lifetime, but to also raise the money needed to finance the trip.

That's where community came in to play. "The Superior Award-Winning E.C. Glass High School Chamber Singers would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped make our invitation to perform the Faure' Requiem at Carnegie Hall become a reality!" said Director of Choral Activities Nancy Volk-Stalcup. "If you purchased concessions at a Glass football game, ate pancakes for breakfast at Applebee's, participated in our Patron Drive, our three-day Silent Auction, one of four McDonald's Nights, a bake sale, the Mistletoe Market, or the 'Cupcakes, Cookies and Carwash for Carnegie,' then you helped us to achieve our goal!"

If you’d still like to help, the Chamber Choir is still collecting money for meals in New York. Checks can be made out to the E. C. Glass Choral Department.

The group will be leaving for the New York adventure on April 4th at 6:00 a.m. Before they go, the chorus director and students want to ensure that the community knows “we couldn’t have done this without you!”

“It will be an honor for us to represent Lynchburg City Schools on the Isaac Stern stage at the historic Carnegie Hall. Thank you again and again.”
