Beat the Street Literacy ProjectsA ninth-grade Heritage High School project provides a student’s perspective about why education is important.

The project, called “The 9th Grade Beat the Streets Project: Progress Through Literacy” includes several student-made videos that tell, from a student’s point of view, why it’s important to get an education.

Students read two books: “We Beat the Streets” and “Freedom Writers,” then, they made videos discussing what they learned from the books. Students said the books changed their views on education because they learned that no matter what background you come from or what obstacles you face, you can be in charge of your own future. With an education, “you can make a change.”
