Dearington Teachers Hold Math SOL Boot Camp for 5th Graders

DESI Boot CampTo help Dearington Elementary School students prepare for this year’s Math SOLs, 5th grade teachers coordinated a Math Boot Camp, a three-day intensive of math review. The day is filled with math stations and various volunteers coming to lead the stations, including Liberty University students and building and division administrators. Each station focused on one SOL. “It is a lot of fun and the students LOVE the idea of reviewing this way,” says teacher Marisa Freeman, who worked closely with fellow teacher Sarah Poole in this unique SOL review. Stations included games, whiteboard activities, using Google Earth to review area and perimeter, practice SOLs, a "dump sheet" station to practice making a dump sheet, and more. Students were encouraged to wear camo and each one had a dog tag hanging up with their name on it.
