Each November the Virginia School Board Association celebrates November as "Take Your Legislator to School Month," and this month, Heritage High School welcomed Virginia Senator Steve Newman and Sandusky Middle School hosted Virginia Delegate Scott Garrett.

Newman visited HHS last year as the school was under construction, and this was his first time on the campus since it opened. Student guides led their guest through the many highlights of their new school, including the field house, the cafeteria, the new Culinary Arts classroom, the science labs, and finally, the media center.

The highlight of both tours was the student engagement. Students asked their local elected officials about SOL reform, affordable college, dual enrollment, and many other issues that are relevant to them today.
