Substitute Teacher Assistant Information and Requirements

Dear Applicant,

Thank you for your interest in substituting as a teacher assistant with Lynchburg City Schools. Only applicants that meet Lynchburg City Schools’ requirements will be notified and scheduled for the orientation.

REQUIREMENTS:
• Minimum of sixty (60) college credit hours; or an associate degree; or ParaPro Assessment* score of 455 or higher
• Successful background check
• Three satisfactory job references
• Interview with personnel staff

*ParaPro Assessment is the state's formal academic assessment required for teacher assistants. Contact Educational Testing Services for more information.

Compensation is based on: 

Education Hours Worked Daily Rate
60 credit hours plus; associate degree; or ParaPro 7.0 Hours $51
Long-term substitute, beginning at day eleven 7.5 Hours Daily rate + $12

 

APPLICATION:

  1. Complete the online Lynchburg City Schools’ Classified Employment Application. Include three professional references on the application.
  2. Forward the reference forms (PDF) to your three professional references. Completed reference forms should be returned to the Lynchburg City Schools’ Personnel Department.
  3. Forward college transcripts and /or ParaPro test scores (if possessed) to Lynchburg City Schools Personnel Department.
  4. An interview with personnel staff will be scheduled if you meet our qualifications. This appointment will be scheduled via a phone call or e-mail.
  5. Documents will be reviewed to determine if the applicant meets Lynchburg City Schools’ needs. Applicants meeting these criteria will be scheduled to attend an orientation.

 

ORIENTATION:
You must present the following documents and complete the background investigation at orientation.

  1. A negative TB test completed within the last twelve (12) months and signed by a physician. Tuberculin Test Certificate (PDF)
  2. Documents that establish employment eligibility are: U.S. passport; or driver's license, ID card issued by a government agency, school ID card with photograph, voter registration card, U.S. military ID card, and Social Security card, Certification of Report of Birth, U.S. citizen ID card.
  3. Form I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification (PDF)
  4. Virginia State Police Fingerprint Check and FBI Fingerprint Check (completed at orientation)
  5. Social Services Child Protective Services (completed at orientation)

FILING DEADLINE/QUESTIONS:
Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis; however, seating is limited for orientation.
