Technology Academies
Technology Academies are a four-day, 20 hour, in-depth approach to learning a specific piece of technology hardware. The Lynchburg City Schools will offer three Academies; SmartBoard, Classroom Performance System, and Digital Imaging. At the successful conclusion of the Academy, participants will receive the technology they have been instructed on for use in their classrooms. Participants will be selected after a panel review of applications submitted. Please note there will not be a monetary stipend awarded to participants for attending the Academies. Participants will receive technology hardware for their classrooms in lieu of a stipend. Dates and Topics of available academies are:
- SmartBoard (June 18 – 21) – 20 participants will receive a SmartBoard to be mounted and a projection unit/computer for their classroom. em-link[2]
- Classroom Performance System (June 25 – 28) – 10 participants will receive a 32 pad infrared CPS system and projection unit/computer for their classroom. em-link[3]
- Digital Imaging (August 6 – 9) – 10 participants will receive 1-2 digital cameras, 5 digital video cameras, 25 Microsoft Digital Image Suite software licenses, and projection unit/computer for their classroom. em-link[4]
Technology Focus Sessions
Technology Focus sessions are a two day (or three half days), 10 hour, approach to become more familiar in a specific area of technology. Participants will receive a stipend of $15.00 per hour for attendance and will be required to produce a sharable lesson/activity as a conclusion of the Focus session. Focus sessions will be instructor lead and hands on. Participants will register online and be selected on a first come, first served basis. Seating will be limited to 20 participants. A minimum of five participants will be required for a session to be offered. Dates and Topics of available Technology Focus Sessions are:
- United Streaming (June 18 – 19) – United Streaming is more than video clips. Come learn about new features such as the Assignment Builder, Quiz Builder, Writing Prompt Builder, Lesson Plan Library and more. em-link[5]
- Advanced PowerPoint (June 20 – 22) – Learn that PowerPoint is more than just clicking through slides. You will learn how to make your PowerPoint shows interactive. em-link[6]
- Photostory (July 9 – 10) – Learn how to make your photos and sounds come alive with just a few clicks. em-link[7]
- Smart Notebook Software (July 10 – 12) – Learn how this software can be used without having a SmartBoard. Great for making interactive lessons to use in the classroom or lab. em-link[8]
- Movie Maker (July 12 – 13) – Learn how to bring out the creative spirit of your students through the use of video production. em-link[9]
- Hot Potatoes (July 17 – 18) – Learn about this great resource to produce captivating handouts for students. The Hot Potatoes suite includes six applications, enabling you to create interactive multiple-choice, short-answer, jumbled-sentence, crossword, matching/ordering and gap-fill exercises for the World Wide Web. em-link[10]
- Inspiration (July 17 – 19) – Become inspired to use Inspiration in creating graphic web organizers. em-link[11]
- Pod Casting (July 18 – 20) – You’ve heard the term, now come find out what is all about and how you to can begin creating pod casts. em-link[12]
- Quick and Easy Computer Activities (July 24 – 25) – Don’t have a lot of time to develop computer activities for you class? Still not comfortable using Microsoft Office with your students? Then this class if for you. em-link[13]
