LES Family Book Club - Spring 2017

The World According to Humphrey book coverIt is time to sign up to participate in our final LES Family Book Club of the year! Anyone in grades 2-5 can join, and it is free! It is a great way for you to share reading at home with your child. You and your child will each be provided with a copy of a novel to read at home. You should read and discuss the novel at home and then attend an evening meeting to discuss the book with other families from LES. The books are then returned to the school for teachers to use in their classrooms.

We’ll be reading this fun book, the first in the Humphrey series by Betty Birnley.

You can learn a lot about life by observing another species. That’s what Humphrey was told when he was first brought to Room 26. And boy, is it true! In addition to having FUN-FUN- FUN in class, each weekend this amazing hamster gets to sleep over with a different student, like Lower-Your-Voice-A.J. and Speak-Up-Sayeh. Humphrey manages to bring out hidden courage and kindness in those he visits. Soon Humphrey learns to read, write, and even shoot rubber bands (only in self-defense, of course). With lots of friends to help, adventures to enjoy, and a cage with a lock-that-doesn’t-lock, Humphrey's life is almost perfect. If only the teacher, Mrs. Brisbane, wasn’t out to get him!

We plan to meet for the Family Night discussion on Tuesday, March 21st from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the LES library. We will discuss the book and enjoy some desserts too! Space is limited to 30 families, so if you are interested, send in the reply form to reserve your spot in our Family Book Club!
