John Blakely, Principal
Welcome and thank you for selecting the website dedicated to Robert S. Payne Elementary School.
Robert S. Payne Elementary School, located in Lynchburg, Virginia, was originally built in 1885 and named for Dr. Robert Spottswood Payne, Chairman of the Lynchburg City School Board at that time.
Today, Robert S. Payne Elementary School is an air-conditioned, three-story building that serves a student population of approximately 600 students and a total staff of 85 members. Our facility is unique as an elementary school in our division in that it includes large and spacious classrooms, a full size media center, cafeteria, auditorium, and gymnasium complete with an indoor track. In addition, the school has two separate rooms dedicated to technology. Two computer labs have twenty-five computers in a network setting and one mobile computer lab with 25 laptops that are available for student and teacher use. Each classroom has an interactive Smart Board and at least two multimedia computers connected to the network with a laser printer.
Also included as a part of the school’s program is a Gifted Opportunity Center which is a division-wide program that offers an accelerated program to students in grades 3, 4, and 5. In addition to the standard curriculum, students in this program are provided with unique opportunities in technology and/or special projects that involve writing and research.
I extend an open invitation for you to visit us at Robert S. Payne Elementary School and to experience the wonderful opportunities we provide for our students. Please contact me at (434) 522-3762 or by email at blakelyje@lcsedu.net.
