T. C. Miller Elementary School for Innovation serves students from kindergarten through fifth grade. Our curriculum supports the Virginia Standards of Learning through a field of study that integrates reading, language arts, math, science, technology, research and various performing arts projects. All core subject areas are integrated and enhanced with Performing Arts and STREAM.

Reading and Language Arts

A minimum of two hours a day is spent in the area of Language Arts/Reading. T. C. Miller uses Lynchburg City Schools’ Learning Outcomes Goals (LOGs) as the guideline for reading and language arts instruction. Orton Gillingham and Fundations are also used to support student learning in Reading, Language Arts, and Writing. Classroom teachers also use the Interactive Read Aloud books.

Math

A minimum of 80 minutes a day is spent on mathematics. T. C. Miller uses Lynchburg City Schools’ Learning Outcomes Goals (LOGs) as the guideline for math instruction. Math is integrated into our Performing Arts and STREAM programs.

Science

T. C. Miller uses Lynchburg City Schools’ Learning Outcomes Goals (LOGs) as the guideline for science instruction. Science is taught in the classroom by the grade level teachers and also by our STREAM teacher. Classroom teachers also use science kits provided by the LCS Division Science teacher and 3D printers.

Social Studies

T. C. Miller uses Lynchburg City Schools’ Learning Outcomes Goals (LOGs) as the guideline for social studies instruction. Students are given opportunities to demonstrate their knowledge through projects and our Open Performance events.
