LOCATION:
Carl B. Hutcherson Early Learning Center
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
To assist in the assessment, development and implementation of occupational therapy programs for students on assigned caseload.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
The certified occupational therapy assistant (COTA) works under the direction and supervision of an Occupational Therapist and reports directly to the principal of the Carl B. Hutcherson Early Learning Center.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- The candidate must have a national board for certification and occupational therapy certificate/license.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists in assessing students’ level of functioning and need for therapy.
- Assists in developing an Individual Education Program for each student and participant in IEP meetings with parents at the direction of the occupational therapist.
- Implements therapy programs to meet IEP goals.
- Teaches parents, teachers or aides and other appropriate personnel to implement fine motor programs as prescribed by the occupational therapist.
- Collects and records data on therapy programs.
- Monitors therapy programs using observations, data and/or pre-post testing.
- Manages student behavior during therapy.
- Works cooperatively and communicates appropriately with teaching and support staff.
- Develops and adheres to a daily schedule.
- Works with the occupational therapist to order appropriate materials and equipment; uses and maintains that equipment.
- Monitors and reports student performance and progress.
- Attends staff meetings and serves on committees as directed.
- Complete required reports, IEP’s and other forms promptly and in an acceptable manner.
- Performs other duties as requested by the supervisor and/or director.
SALARY TERMS:
The minimum starting salary for this position is $29,270. This is a 10-month position with full benefits.
