Special Education Instructional Assistant – Middle

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Perform responsible human support and paraprofessional work assisting classroom teachers or other professionals to achieve instructional objectives; assisting special population students with achieving established goals.

LOCATION:
Paul Laurence Dunbar Middle School for Innovation

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
The special education instructional assistant reports to the building principal, administrative designee.

QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma or GED.
Minimum of sixty (60) credit hours from an accredited post-secondary institution or career technical facility; or an Associate’s Degree; or successfully completed the ParaPro assessment.
Some experience in working with children.
A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist classroom teacher in performing specific duties as assigned or undertaking specialized tasks to achieve and enhance instructional objectives.
Work with individuals or small groups to reinforce material introduced by teacher.
Provide programmed practice activities and repetitions as developed by teacher.
Assist with large and small group activities.
Guide independent study and other work assigned by teacher.
Report student problems to the teacher and assists with student problems.
Assist with loading and unloading buses.
Supervise students during unstructured time such as lunch and recess.
Assist with student routines.
Perform related work as required.

SALARY TERMS:
This is a 10-month position with full benefits.

Teacher Assistant I salary range is $10,923.00 – 16,523.00. Teacher Assistant II salary range is $12,043.00 – $18,215.00. Salaries are based upon the following:

Teacher Assistant I: ($10,923.00 beginning salary) A minimum of sixty (60) hours college credit; or successfully completing the ParaPro
Teacher Assistant II: ($12, 043 beginning salary) Associate’s Degree or higher

School Bus Driver

Lynchburg City Schools has openings for school bus drivers. Candidates must be 18 years of age or older, and possess (or be willing to obtain) a VA Commercial Drivers License.

Candidates are paid, tutored and trained to obtain their Commercial Drivers License (CDL).
Starting pay during training is $7.80 per hour.
Pay increase received after successful completion of training.
Contract offers are based upon previous bus driving experience.
Applicants must also have a medical exam, a drug screening, and must pass an extensive DMV and criminal background check.

Custodian

Lynchburg City Schools has periodic openings for custodians. Candidates who are selected will start on the substitute custodian list. Substitute custodian pay rate is $7.25 per hour.

Full-time custodian starting salary is $8.03 per hour depending on experience.

General cleaning tasks required at assigned location.
Day and evening positions are available.
