Teacher for Dropout Prevention Program (1-ECG and 1-HHS)

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  1. The candidate must possess or be eligible for a valid teacher license.
  2. The candidate must have the ability to teach several content areas, Math and English preferred.
  3. The candidate must have the ability to use computer-based programs - preferred.
  4. The candidate must have experience with GED instruction - preferred.
  5. The candidate must have the ability to work in an alternative education setting.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP:

The teacher for Dropout Prevention Program reports to the building principal or designee.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Helps provide a broad-based career development program that includes career awareness, exploration, and job preparation activities at various grade levels.
  2. Completes individual student alternative education plan (ISAEP) training and keeps updated with the various types of individual learning software and testing packages.
  3. Works with community resources to assist in the appropriate job placement of at-risk students who may be potential dropouts.
  4. Helps create and administer mentorship programs with various local groups for students who may consider dropping out of school.
  5. Teaches GED preparation classes.
  6. Works with scheduling students in the program, where needed, into Career Tech, reading, and job placement
  7. Works with administration to identify candidates for the program.
  8. Administers the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) to students.
  9. Identifies effective use of all available software into a comprehensive instructional program.
  10. Motivates students to stay in the program through completion.

 

SALARY TERMS:

The minimum starting salary for this position is $33,969. This is a 10-month position with full benefits.

Itinerant Teacher for the Visually Impaired

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

To develop and implement appropriate educational assistance programs for students with visual impairments. 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  1. The candidate holds a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree with endorsement to teach students with visual impairments. Special Education endorsement preferred but not required.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

The itinerant teacher for the visually impaired reports directly to the Director of the LAUREL Regional Program. 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILTIES:

  1. Performs functional vision assessments.
  2. Interprets all ophthalmologic, optometric, and functional vision reports and the implications thereof for educational and home environments to families, classroom teachers, and other team members.
  3. Participates in the multidisciplinary team to develop Individualized Education Programs and other similar documents for assigned students.
  4. Identifies goals and objectives in specialized areas related to the visual needs of the student.
  5. Identifies instructional methods and materials for meeting goals and objectives.
  6. Assures that the student has educational materials in the appropriate media.
  7. Assures that the student is trained in the use of, and has available, all devices and technological apparatus necessary for learning, including low vision aids.
  8. When appropriate, implements instruction on the use of Braille.
  9. Keeps administrators apprised of student information program goals and objectives, screening, and referral procedures.
  10. Maintains records of student assessments, IEPs, periodic reviews, progress reports, and signed parental release forms.
  11. Performs all other duties as assigned by the director of the LAUREL Regional Program.

SALARY TERMS:

The salary range for this position is $33,969 – $61,818, depending on experience level. This is a 10-month position with full benefits. The start date is August 11, 2008.
