On March 23, 2010, the Lynchburg City School Board adopted the calendar for the 2010-2011 school year. This calendar has significant structure changes that will give the students more instructional time in the classroom while saving the division money in energy and transportation. This was a creative way of saving money while maintaining – if not improving – the quality of children’s education. Major changes to the calendar include the following:

  • Increasing the length of the school day by roughly 30 minutes
  • Increasing the amount of time a teacher is with students during the 7.5 hour work day.
  • High school students will have a mandatory 7 period day. There will be no optional first period.
  • The current high school exam structure will be removed.
  • Seniors will have an early release option.
  • At the end of each six-weeks elementary students will have an early dismissal day.
  • The removal of the seven work and professional days for teachers.
  • Winter break will be a week and a half longer.
  • Spring break will happen the week before Easter.
  • The last day of school will be May 27, 2011.
  • Graduation will be on Sunday, May 29, 2011.
