TCM flag and dance corps holding trophy

The T. C. Miller Elementary School for Innovation’s Soaring Eagles Flag and Dance Corps has a lot to celebrate! The flag and dance corps, which was founded five years ago, is comprised of 3rd through 5th grade students. The group meets every Thursday evening throughout the year to choreograph and rehearse color guard skills, dance and theatrical improv to create various field, indoor and stage routines. They received third place for the Marching Units in the 2017 Lynchburg Christmas Parade. Keeping with the parade’s theme of “A Rockin’ 50’s Christmas,” the Soaring Eagles performed their rendition of “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree.”

Under the direction of Shawn Lipscomb (Visual Arts Teacher and Co-Performing Arts Director at T. C. Miller), the group has also performed and received recognition at the Lynchburg Classic Marching Band Competition (exhibition performance), E. C. Glass Indoor Drumline and Color Guard Competition (exhibition performance), and Hill City Youth Football Championship Game (half-time show).

The group’s next public performance will be at T. C. Miller Elementary School’s “Back Stage Café,” which will be held on Thursday, April 26.
