Dear LCS community,

We have some highlights to share with you from our Tuesday, October 19, 2021 Lynchburg City School Board Work Session.

The administration requested and the Board approved to make changes to the LCS and Bass school calendars. These changes will provide staff with additional time to prep, plan, and address any needs in response to COVID-19 and the resulting impact on schools. On the approved days, students will have a two hour early dismissal. (Although October 27, 2021 was proposed, it was not approved as an early dismissal day.)

Early dismissals for students will occur on:

  • Wednesday, November 10, 2021
  • Wednesday, November 17, 2021
  • Wednesday, December 1, 2021
  • Wednesday, December 8, 2021
  • Wednesday, January 5, 2022
  • Wednesday, January 12, 2022

Also, as part of the approved changes, Tuesday, November 2, 2021 will change from a professional development day to a staff workday. Friday, December 17, 2021 will be an early dismissal day for all staff and students.

Director Dr. Allison Jordan provided the Board with an update on the 90-Day Academic Data Review.

Deputy Superintendent Amy Pugh gave a presentation on the CARES Instructional Funding. The presentation provides details on how LCS is utilizing CARES Funding for instruction.
