Dear LCS community,  

We have some highlights to share with you from our School Board Meeting on Tuesday, February 1, 2022.

Student Representatives Jaiden Scott (E. C. Glass) and Eujine Kim (Heritage) gave updates on school events, athletics, school programs, and school clubs.

Deputy Superintendent Amy Pugh and LCS Elementary STEM Instructional Specialist Kelley Davis provided the School Board with an update on Strategic Plan Goal 1.4.1 as related to the science program at the elementary schools.

The School Board voted to approve the School Desegregation Resolution.

Deputy Superintendent Amy Pugh provided the School Board with a community update. The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) canceled all LCS vaccination clinics due to low turnout in previous clinics. School Board member Dr. Robert Brennan encouraged LCS to continue to have a process to make vaccines available. 
 
The School Board reviewed budget requests for the FY 2022-23 Operating Budget. Superintendent Dr. Crystal Edwards shared requested items proposed by principals and directors. Some requests include funding for staff positions, building needs, staff support, and staff benefits. Dr. Edwards will present a prioritized list of requests to the School Board.

The unveiling and dedication of the historical highway marker honoring Samuel F. Kelso will be February 15, at 5:00 p.m. at the School Administration Building. The School Board Work Session will occur after the unveiling and dedication in the Board Room of the School Administration Building. The next School Board Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 1, at 5:00 p.m. in the Board Room of the School Administration Building.
