This is your Board Meeting Brief for the February 7th School Board Meeting.

The calendar committee presented a draft of the 2023-24 LCS Calendar, not including the Bass Elementary calendar. The School Board will discuss the calendar at a later meeting.

Dr. Reid Wodicka, Deputy Superintendent of Operations and Strategic Planning, provided an update on the facilities master plan. Educational consultant MGT is currently helping LCS develop a long-range educational plan that will be designed to inform the long-term facilities master plan. The Scope and Work Plan from MGT can be viewed on BoardDocs.

In-person community feedback sessions regarding the Facilities Master Plan are planned for April.

LCS administration reviewed with the Board the process for vetting, approving, and appealing instructional resources. While there was a motion to develop updates to the language of previously approved policies regarding instruction, that motion did not pass.

The Board continued to discuss the competitive “15-50” salary proposal and other proposed budgetary items for the next fiscal year. The proposal would raise the minimum classified salary to $15 an hour. It would also raise the minimum teacher salary to $50,000 annually. Proposed pay schedules can be found on BoardDocs.

The School Board approved an amendment to the 2022-23 LCS Academic Calendar to adjust this year’s high school graduation dates. E. C. Glass graduation will now take place on Saturday, June 3 at City Stadium. Heritage graduation will take place on Sunday, June 4 at City Stadium.
