A shop foreman shall be appointed by the board upon the recommendation of the Superintendent. He shall be directly responsible to the Director of Transportation for the transportation equipment. He shall also be held responsible for the laws of the State of Virginia and State Board regulations in regards to transportation in addition to such policies as the school board shall set forth.
The shop foreman and level I and II mechanics shall be appointed by the School Board upon the recommendation of the Superintendent as are necessary to maintain the transportation vehicles in a safe operating condition. These appointees shall be of expectation reliability due to the responsibilities they assume for the safe operation of our school buses.
Level I and II mechanics working in the school bus maintenance garage are directly responsible to the shop foreman for the efficient operation of the garage and other transportation facilities. The shop foreman must keep the Director of Transportation informed at all times of this operation and the needs required for it.
The duties of the shop foreman and mechanics are set forth by the Superintendent. Many of these duties will be implied in the procedures set forth for the efficient operation of the garage and transportation system. Personnel policies set forth by the board are applicable to the shop foreman and mechanics except where noted to the contrary.
All bus drivers shall meet the requirements of the State Board of Education and the Code of Virginia as a prerequisite to employment.
Bus drivers shall be thoroughly investigated as to their reliability, stability, and ability to drive, prior to their recommendation by the Superintendent of the board for employment.
Bus drivers shall be responsible to the Director of Transportation. They shall specifically be held accountable for the safe operation of their buses and the safety and conduct of their passengers at all times.
Each bus driver shall be told to whom they are responsible and for what functions.
