The Lynchburg City Schools' Kindergarten through twelfth grades writing program is sequential and definitive. Key experiences, beginning with the formation of simple sentences in the primary grades, provide direction through a progression of increasingly complex writing experiences culminating at the high school level in the writing of critical analyses of published literary works.

The program not only prescribes the experiences that each student will be taught at each grade in the elementary schools and in each course at the high school level, but also the writing program's developmental design, it is unnecessary to have a separate remediation component.

Although Language Arts/English teachers have the primary responsibility for teaching the key experiences in writing, every teacher is considered to be a teacher of writing.

Students and teachers are accountable for following the adopted writing process. Student progress is monitored across the curriculum.
