The Adult Education Program was established in 1973 to prepare adults for the General Equivalency Diploma (GED). Formerly housed at the Armstrong School at Monsview and Grayson Streets, it is now located in The Adult Learning Center at 1015 Miller Park Square. Approximately 100 students receive their G.E.D. through the Adult Education Program each year.

Over the last several years, the need for more educational environments for adults has greatly increased, leading to the expansion of Adult Education. The program now includes Workplace Education, Adult/Community Education, and Even Start along with the Adult Learning Center.

Established in 1994, the Workplace Education Program is designed to improve productivity and quality in the workplace and is titled, “Productivity Enhancement Through Education in the Workplace”. Instruction is normally conducted at the worksite but can be scheduled at a Lynchburg City Schools facility.

Established in the 1980’s, the Adult/Community Education Program is a tuition-based technology and trades program. Classes are open to the general public, 18 years of age or older.
