Technology Education - Middle School
This is a comprehensive program designed to help students develop an understanding of the various aspects of technology. Through a variety of laboratory and classroom experiences, students work cooperatively to solve
technology related problems.

Math/science teachers work collaboratively with the Technology Education teacher to provide students with laboratory activities that reinforce the principles learned in the classroom. - Inventions and Innovations (7)

Family and Consumer Sciences - Middle School
These courses place an emphasis on the young consumer in the home, the development of one’s potential as a family member, and the development of career awareness.

Business and Information Technology - High School
These offerings are designed to meet widely recognized goals. They provide a foundation for college-bound Business Administration students, help students develop an understanding of our economic system, and prepare students for office occupations. Cooperative Office Education is an integral part of the business education program, which provides supervised on-the-job instruction. Participation in this phase is optional.

Content emphasis is placed on the theory of basic bookkeeping and the use of journals and ledgers, worksheets, and income statements. - Advanced Accounting
Content emphasis is placed on the management of financial records through simulated business activities. Microcomputers are used to automate, analyze and interpret accounting transactions. - Business Law
Content emphasis is placed on the law of contracts and the rights and responsibilities of individuals and businesses. - Business Management
Content emphasis is placed on an overview of American business and the social and economic environments in which it operates. - Computer Information Systems
Content emphasis is placed on skill development in business applications of the microcomputer and software such as Microsoft Office. - Design, Multimedia, and Web Technologies
Develop proficiency in using desktop publishing software. Students work in a Windows environment using Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, Adobe PageMaker and Photoshop, paint programs, CD-ROM packages, scanners, and digital cameras. - Keyboarding

Family and Consumer Sciences - High School
These courses prepare individuals for employment in jobs requiring Work and Family Studies knowledge and skills. They also develop personal employability and employment-seeking skills.
- Culinary Arts
Learn food service and preparation skills to prepare students for careers in culinary arts. - Early Childhood Education
Learn childhood development, early childhood education and various preschool learning activities. This course is also helpful to the student who wants a career in early childhood or elementary education.
Technology Education - High School
This is a comprehensive program that uses technical means and processes in a modular setting to help students develop an understanding of the various aspects of technology. Through laboratory and classroom experiences, students are aided in the discovery and development of their individual potential. Technical Drawing courses are also included in this curriculum.
- Basic Technical Drawing
Content emphasis is placed on lettering and line work, object visualization, sketching geometric construction, and the application of basic math concepts. Computer assisted drawing (CAD) is also introduced. - Engineering Drawing
Content emphasis is placed on sectioning, developments and intersections, and drawing complex parts. The preparation of advanced engineering drawings, problem-solving experiences, and CAD applications are also included. - Architectural Drawing
Content emphasis is placed on residential architectural drawing, home site construction, floor plan characteristics, construction details, support members, and exterior house design. - Technology Foundations
Content emphasis is placed on a modular approach to an integrated academic and technology education curriculum. Problem-solving activities, presentations, field trips, and guest speakers complement the modular concept. - Technology Transfer
Content emphasis is placed on a modular approach to an integrated academic and technology education curriculum. Students strengthen problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
Trade and Industrial Education - High School
Programs are two-year courses, which offer a wide variety of occupational preparatory options. Students in their junior year may select from laboratory or cooperative courses depending on individual career goals and interests. Students enrolled in a Trade and Industrial class commit to a two-hour block in their schedule for level one and a three-hour block for level two. Seniors who have successfully mastered the program competencies and have demonstrated appropriate work attitudes and habits are eligible to participate in a Practical Work Experience during the second semester. This phase of the program provides students with related work experience in a local business or industry.
- Auto Body Repair
Content emphasis is placed on the development of skills in the identification, removal, and replacement of related auto body parts. Instruction also includes proper finishing techniques. Students sharpen employability skills and explore the establishment and maintenance of an auto body repair business. - Automotive Service Technology
Content emphasis is placed on the fundamentals of automotive technology and its operation with a focus on the internal combustion engine. Instruction includes training in the use of power and hand tools, lab equipment, service manuals, on-board vehicle and computerized engine diagnostic testers, and safe and proper lab procedures. The Automotive Service Technology program received Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification in January of 1999. - Building Trades
Content emphasis is placed on developing skills in cost estimation, materials utilization, hand and power tool operation and interpretation of technical drawings and specifications. Students construct a modular home each year to be sold at public auction. - Sports, Entertainment, and Recreational Marketing
Learn sports, entertainment and recreational marketing and its importance. Student will also develop skills of event planning, market research, advertising, public relations, effective selling, licensing and merchandise branding. - Graphic Imaging Technology
Content emphasis is placed on exploration of all aspects of the printing industry. Students gain technical knowledge in the areas of graphics, image assembly, layout and design, darkroom processes, plate making, image transfer and finishing procedures. - Computer Maintenance
Students will learn uses of computer hardware, peripherals, and learn to build a computer from parts. They will learn basics of software functions of Windows 98, ME, 2000, and XP. - Computer Systems Technology
Content emphasis is placed on developing skills in constructing and maintaining computer components, systems and networks. Students who successfully complete the program will have A+ Certification. - Cooperative Technical Education
Content emphasis is placed on technical and health related occupation information, job seeking-job keeping skills, employer-employee relations, and personal development issues. Students who successfully complete the program must have 180 hours of on-the-job training. - Cosmetology
Content emphasis is placed on the basic skills associated with hair styling and coloring, facial and scalp treatments, manicuring procedures, and wiggery. Instruction also includes safety and sanitation procedures, bacteriology, and professional ethics. Students who successfully complete the program will possess a cosmetology license issued by the state of Virginia. - Firefighter and EMT Program
A two-year program containing the Firefighter I curriculum as outlined by National Fire Protection Association, EMT-B, Hazmat Ops and CPR. The total required classroom and practical hours are 300. This is approximately four hours of instruction per week. - Manufacturing Systems
The manufacturing systems program is an overview of automated systems, electrical, mechanical, manufacturing processes, material handling and quality control. Students will work together to produce manufacturing projects. - Precision Machine Technology
Content emphasis is placed on the use of layout tools, heat treating techniques, metal alloys and compositions, forging, reading precision measurement instruments, reading blueprints, and planning machining sequences. Students will also receive detailed instruction in the use of manual machining and Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machining. Laboratory tasks are complex and geared toward industry practices.
Health Occupations - High School
Programs are two-year courses which provide the knowledge for career choice and the basic skill training for students to immediately enter employment in a health-related field.
- Dental Careers
Content emphasis is placed on the development of entry-level clerical skills and clinical skills necessary to assist a dentist in the routine function of a dental office. Instruction also includes basic first aid, chairside dental procedures, sterilization of instruments, and general office procedures. - Introduction to Health and Medical Sciences
In this program students will develop basic skills and knowledge of all health careers through independent study, field trips and hands-on activities.
Marketing Education - High School
Prepares students for careers in the marketing of goods or services; the buying, transporting, and storing of goods; the promotion of goods and services; market research; and marketing management. Marketing Education programs enable students to combine classroom instruction and supervised on-the-job training, so that upon completion they are ready for entry into full-time employment or into advanced educational or training programs.

Content emphasis is placed on self-development, communicating effectively, product planning, and selling techniques. Instruction also includes relationships with employers, coworkers and customers. Principles of the free enterprise system are also introduced. Continuous part-time employment is required of all students enrolled in the marketing program. - Advanced Marketing
Content emphasis is placed on the importance of personal values, marketing research, product development, professional selling, profit calculations, credit policies, customer service, payroll preparation, and company security. Continuous part-time employment is required of all students enrolled in the advanced marketing program.
Each of the thirteen career-technical program areas uses volunteer members of business and industry as members of the advisory committees. Each committee meets a minimum of four times annually to review all aspects of the program thereby ensuring we offer a contemporary curriculum and valid competencies. Any interested member of the community is encouraged to participate in this process.
