Pen and paperThree published authors are amongst the eighth grade class at Sandusky Middle School. Gabby Cleaver, Javier Duran, and Diamond Rosser won the fall 2011 Creative Communications Poetic Power contest. This contest creates three anthologies a year full of creative writing from students in grades K-12.

All three poems will now be published in a book that will be available for purchase this spring. This is an honor for both students because the contest says it accepts less than fifty percent of poems entered for each contest. Their works were judged by teachers, professors and professional writers.

Below are the award winning poems:

In the wind
By Gabby Cleaver

A wisp of wind,

The rustle of tree branches.

The flow of a river.

All cause by an attitude

a power stronger than human nature.

The power who talks, but all you hear is silence.

He expresses his feelings in a unique way.

Through the light of the sky he is alive, happy, and awake

But through the cold dark nights he feels anger, and sadness.

He is alone.

No one can tame his feelings.

He is desperate

As the sun rises, it starts again

The wind walking through the forest like the ruler of the world,

Mother Nature calls him to rest and all is silenced.

Impossible
By Javier Duran

They say it is impossible

They say you cannot do it

They say you are not worth it

But who are they to tell me it is impossible?

I can do anything I set my mind to

I can do it

It is not impossible!

The Monster
By Diamond Rosser

She was there, and then she wasn’t,

Her heart was there, and then it stopped,

Her laughs ceased,

Her smiles frowned,

Something was wrong,

Something was hurting her,

She no longer had control of her life,

The monster had control,

The monster took her happiness,

The monster took her energy,

The monster also took her spirit,

But the only thing that the monster gave her was the Cancer.
