LCS middle school students put their hypotheses to the test as they participated in the annual middle school science fair this winter and spring. Students from all three middle schools brought home regional awards in several categories.

Projects were initially judged at each individual middle school, and the top five were selected to compete at the Central Virginia Regional Science Fair Challenge in May. More than 80 sixth- through eighth-graders were chosen to compete.

Dunbar students Emma and Maria Wray took home the Grand Award in Biological Sciences while also capturing first place in the Invertebrate Zoology category. They also earned a special award from the National Association of Biology Teachers. Nathan Marraccini from Linkhorne Middle School also placed first in the Plant Sciences category and earned a Dental Award.

  • Lucy Jablonski, DMS, 2nd place - Plant Sciences
  • Jonathan Burks, SMS, 3rd place - Computer Science & Mathematics
  • Tracy Tarkenton, DMS, 3rd place - Engineering, Dental Award
  • Kyle McCurley and Chaz Sweeney, LMS, Physics, CVGS Visual Display Award
  • Carrington Edmunds, LMS, Honorable Mention - Physics
