The 2020-21 school year was difficult for the LCS community. LCS saw a dramatic decrease in in-person SOL participation. We anticipate lower SOL pass rates in every subject matter with widened achievement gaps for the most vulnerable student populations.

The Spring 2021 SOL data was limited, but it is valuable data at the student level. Teachers will be able to identify student strengths and weaknesses even though cohort data is not as robust from this SOL administration.

In light of this reality LCS focused on in-person learning opportunities for students at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. More than 1,600 PreK-12 students were served in summer school. 299 high school credits were recovered during the summer program, as well as 111 new credits earned at this level.

LCS has two instructional models for the 2021-22 school year. The predominant instructional model is in-person instruction five days a week with LCS teachers. The LCS Virtual Academy, serving a smaller number (239) of LCS students, offers virtual instruction from LCS teachers using local and state curricula for students in grades K-5. Secondary students participate in both self-paced and synchronous instruction through an online platform with support from LCS teachers.

LCS will use timely data throughout the year to predict student performance and growth. Various baseline assessments will be implemented to measure individual student academic growth. By September 1st, baseline data will be available for reading (students in 2-12) and math (grades 2 through Algebra 1). LCS will continue to implement instructional best practices to promote academic progress for all students, including individual intervention and enrichment at the student level, as well as hands-on STEM activities to apply student learning. LCS will focus on increased data analysis, with regular data reviews and outcome plans at the school level at least every 4.5 weeks, and division level reports to the School Board every 90 days.

LCS continues to focus on Every Child, By Name and By Need, to Graduation.
