Sponsored Scholarships

The Lynchburg City Schools Education Foundation manages sponsored scholarships. Businesses and civic groups are invited to sponsor scholarships and can identify their preferred eligibility requirements for qualification. The following scholarships are currently available:

 

  

Belvac Production Machinery Scholarship

Belvac Production MachineryFinancial assistance to students graduating from E. C. Glass High School and Heritage High School who plan to continue his/her education at an accredited college or university.

Any senior at E. C. Glass or Heritage High School who meet the qualifications below may apply. Any student applying for a scholarship must enter an accredited college or university in the fall following graduation. Application forms are available in the schools’ counseling office, must be completed and returned by Friday, March 24, 2017 at 5:00 p.m.

Scholarships will be awarded to students showing outstanding merit, especially in these areas:

  • Leadership
  • Scholastic achievement (minimum 2.8 GPA)
  • Community involvement
  • Record of overcoming personal, family, or other circumstantial obstacles

Scholarship applications should include:

  • Recommendations (Two)
  • PSAT/SAT or ACT scores

Greater Lynchburg Community Trust Scholarship

The Greater Lynchburg Community TrustFinancial assistance to one student graduating from E. C. Glass High School and one from Heritage High School who plans to continue his/her education at an accredited college or university.

Any senior at E. C. Glass or Heritage High School who has been involved in community service may apply. Any student applying for a scholarship must enter an accredited college or university in the fall following graduation. Application forms are available in the schools’ counseling office, must be completed and returned by Friday, March 24, 2017 at 5:00 p.m.

Scholarships will be awarded to students showing outstanding community involvement.

Scholarship applications should include:

  • Recommendations (Two)
  • PSAT/SAT or ACT Scores

Students interested in pursuing this scholarship should contact his/her counselor for more information.

  

James Howard Scholarship

This scholarship is designated to a college bound Heritage High School football player who has been recommended by his coach and approved by a selection committee.

  

Lynchburg Junior Woman's Club Scholarship

Lynchburg Junior Woman's ClubThis $1,000 scholarship was established to provide financial assistance to one student graduating from either E. C. Glass High School or Heritage High School who plans to continue his/her education at an accredited college, university, or vocational training program in the fall following graduation and who has demonstrated a strong commitment to community service. Application forms are available in the schools’ counseling office, must be completed and returned by Friday, March 24, 2017 at 5:00 p.m.

Scholarships will be awarded to students showing outstanding merit with a minimum GPS of 2.5 and a minimum of 30 documented hours of volunteer service over the past two years.

Scholarship applications should include:

  • Academic transcript (including PSAT/SAT or ACT scores)
  • One (2) letter of recommendation from high school administrators/faculty
  • One (1) personal character reference letter from a community leader, clergy or applicant’s work supervisor

Lynchburg City Schools Award for Excellence in Science

Given by the Charles Pryor Family

This is a $25,000 award over four years available to seniors who attend  E. C. Glass High School or Heritage High School who are on track to receive an advanced studies high school diploma. To be eligible, students must have completed a minimum of four advanced level science and math courses prior to his/her senior year, possess a Grade Point Average of 3.8 or higher and be planning to enter a science-related field of study (computer sciences, engineering, biology, chemistry, physics, etc.) at a college or university with an accredited science curriculum. The student should have demonstrated interest in science with recent awards, projects, and/or achievements in science-related fields. Finalists for this award must participate in an interview with a division-level selection committee.

Orthodontic Arts Scholarship

This scholarship provides financial assistance to one student graduating from Heritage High School who plans to continue his/her education at an accredited college or university and who plans to advance his/her education in a field of nursing, dentistry, or medicine. Any graduating student at Heritage High School who fits this description may apply. Any student applying for a scholarship must enter an accredited college or university in the fall following graduation. Application forms are available in the school guidance office and must be completed and returned no later than March 24, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. to the scholarship coordinator at Heritage High School.

Scholarship applications should include:

  • Academic transcript (including PSAT/SAT or ACT scores)
  • One (1) letter of recommendation from high school administrators/faculty
  • One (1) personal character reference letter from a community leader, clergy or applicant’s work supervisor

Students interested in pursuing this scholarship should contact his/her counselor for more information.

  

Al Stroobants Foundation Scholarship

This scholarship provides financial assistance to one student graduating from E. C. Glass High School and one student graduating from Heritage High School who plans to advance their skills in the trades or technical education areas. Any graduating student at E. C. Glass High School and Heritage High School who fits this description may apply. Any student applying for a scholarship must enter an approved vocational technical education program in the summer or fall following graduation. Application forms are available in the school guidance office and must be completed and returned no later than March 24, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. to the scholarship coordinator at their high school.

Scholarship applications should include:

  •   Academic transcript (including PSAT/SAT or ACT scores)
  •   One (1) letter of recommendation from high school administrators/faculty
  •   One (1) personal character reference letter from a community leader, clergy or applicant’s work supervisor

Taylor Brothers

Taylor Brothers of Lynchburg Scholarship

Financial assistance to one student graduating from E. C. Glass High School and one from Heritage High School who plans to continue his/her education at an accredited college or university.

Any senior at E. C. Glass or Heritage High School who has been involved in community service may apply. Any student applying for a scholarship must enter an accredited college or university in the fall following graduation. Application forms are available in the schools’ counseling office, must be completed and returned by Friday, March 24, 2017 at 5:00 p.m.

TMRTMR Scholarship

Financial assistance to one African American student graduating from E. C. Glass High School and one from Heritage High School who plans to continue his/her education at an accredited college or university. 

Any African American senior at E. C. Glass and Heritage High Schools may apply. Any student applying for a scholarship must enter an accredited college or university in the fall following graduation. Application forms are available in the schools’ counseling office, must be completed and returned by Friday, March 24, 2017 at 5:00p.m.

Scholarships will be awarded to students showing outstanding merit, especially in these areas:
