The Fort Hill Community School is a nationally recognized alternative program. It is a program designed to accommodate educational, behavioral, and/or medical needs of students that cannot be adequately addressed in a traditional school environment. Placement in alternative education is determined by the school division. The goal of our alternative program is to provide opportunities for students who are not succeeding in the traditional classroom setting by helping them acquire the academic and social skills necessary to succeed.

Our alternative education program helps students develop self-discipline and responsibility. Those who work in our alternative education program share a fundamental belief that all students are of value and need guidance to find and develop their positive qualities despite the challenges they face in a traditional educational setting or in their personal lives. The Fort Hill Community School is a wonderful place to be!

At Fort Hill Community School, our staff incorporates Restorative Practices with social, emotional, and academic resolutions. Restorative Practices are principles that are designed to build a strong sense of community, teach interpersonal skills, and repair emotional harm when conflict occurs. These practices focus on building, maintaining, and restoring positive relationships when wrongdoing occurs.

The 5 “R’s” of Restorative

1. Relationship - Strong relationships enable fulfilling lives and communities we want to live in. Accountability for harmful actions is the beginning of making amends and relationships can begin to heal.
2. Respect - Respect is the key ingredient for strong relationships. 
3. Responsibility - Taking a hold of responsibility and being honest with yourself to discover your part in the harm is the next piece. 
4. Repair - Once respect and responsibility have been established, we can move on to repair. This replaces thoughts of revenge and punishment. 
5. Reintegration - The final step encourages collaboration. This process recognizes the value of the person and what they have learned.
