2018 Teacher of the Year holding flowers with superintendent and principalLynchburg City Schools is pleased to present Mrs. Tracie Tkacik as this year’s Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Tkacik is currently a fourth-grade teacher at Bedford Hills Elementary School. She has been a dedicated LCS teacher since 1994. She taught at Bass Elementary School prior to coming to Bedford Hills in 2016.

Teachers are selected by their colleagues as their school teacher of the year, making them eligible for division-wide selection. In only her second year at Bedford Hills, Mrs. Tkacik was chosen to represent her school, which, according to principal Sherri Steele, “speaks volumes about her level of professionalism, collaboration, respect, and admiration by those who work closely with her each day.” Mrs. Tkacik was also selected as the Bass Teacher of the Year in 2012, prior to her move to Bedford Hills.

Mrs. Tkacik is a leader in her school. She is committed to building trust and positive relationships with her students and their families. Her teaching strategies truly meet the needs of every child. She emphasizes the importance of motivating students and creating a safe, positive learning environment.

“Students will have many teachers throughout their educational years, but I am completely confident that they will always remember the positive impact Mrs. Tkacik has had on their lives,” says Mrs. Steele. “She is not only a Teacher of the Year, but a Teacher of a Lifetime!”
