The LCS Criminal Justice Program Advisory Committee was honored by the Virginia Department of Education and Virginia’s Community Colleges as one of 10 exemplary career and technical education programs and partnerships across the state.

The advisory committee membership is composed of individuals who represent a broad cross-section of businesses and industries. The members of the Criminal Justice Advisory Committee play a critical role in preparing students for success. They review competency standards and contribute to the implementation of technical skills and activities throughout the year. One example of how the committee helps prepare seniors for future careers is through their mock hiring process. Not only do they host the mock interviews, but they also evaluate the success. The program has seen an abundance of success as evidenced by placing first in the SkillsUSA Crime Scene District Contest last spring; students have been recognized by LCS via nomination for acceptance into the National Technical Honor Society for the two years LCS has participated; and recently, a Criminal Justice 2 student who participated in the mock oral review board three years ago applied for a position with Lynchburg Police Department (LPD) and passed the oral review board, as well as several other stages of the hiring process. LPD is currently completing the former student’s background investigation. A current Criminal Justice 2 student is in the Personal History Statement phase of the hiring process for a Cadet position with LPD upon graduation.

LCS is fortunate to have the support of this highly professional and influential committee to guide our CTE students to future success!
