Everywhere you look in Lynchburg, there is evidence of the city’s love for the arts: Murals adorn the sides of buildings downtown, posters advertise upcoming concerts and performances, and galleries proudly display work by local creators. Though it’s a relatively small city, the arts scene packs a powerful punch.

Visit any Lynchburg City Schools (LCS) building, and you’ll find the same. Music drifts through the hallways as orchestra students practice their arrangements, fresh paintings dry on racks in classrooms, and theatre students rehearse for their next musical.

On Tuesday, April 8, 2025, the Lynchburg City School Board approved measures to improve efficiency and optimize resources within the school division, starting in the 2025-26 school year. T. C. Miller Elementary School will be repurposed for Pre-Kindergarten and elementary alternative education, and select neighborhoods will be rezoned for Dearington and Bass elementary schools.

You are invited to apply to a variety of LCS programs for the 2025-26 school year! Applications must be submitted by Friday, Feb. 28, 2025. Applications are accepted for students outside of these schools’ attendance zones. Students currently zoned for these schools do not need to apply.

We are excited to inform you that Lynchburg City Schools is introducing a new biometric student ID management system at Bass, Bedford Hills, and Perrymont Elementary Schools for the upcoming school year. This innovative system, powered by identiMetrics, aims to improve efficiency and safety during mealtimes.

On Tuesday, June 4, Lynchburg City Schools presented its second-ever Custodial School of Distinction Awards. These awards, granted each semester, recognize custodial teams going above and beyond to foster clean, safe school environments. 

On Tuesday, May 21, 2024, the school board honored students who represented Lynchburg City Schools (LCS) at regional, state, national, and/or international levels in academics, athletics, the arts, and more this school year. 

“This school year, our students have set the standard for excellence locally, nationally, and internationally. The talent and tenacity of our students and the teachers and coaches who have supported them is unmatched,” said LCS Superintendent Crystal Edwards.

The Virginia Literacy Act requires each school division to select textbooks from the VDOE-approved list to implement as a Core Curriculum for K-5 literacy. This implementation is required during the 2024-25 school year. LCS had a first-round review team with representation composed of literacy coaches, principals, and members of the Curriculum & Instruction team.  The next round will be conducted at the school level with the top two publishers from the first round review.
