Students enrolled in William Marvin Bass Elementary School shall participate in a school uniforms program.
Rationale
Bass Elementary School believes that uniforms will affect positive change in the school particularly by:
- Reducing peer pressure
- Increasing safety and security
- Eliminating the wearing of inappropriate clothing items
- Improving personal responsibility and accountability
- Preparing for the workplace, and
- Reinforcing positive behavior
Bass Elementary Dress Attire for Students
Shirts
- Traditional two or three button polo shirts (short or long sleeved) in solid colors of hunter green, navy blue, white, or light blue.
- Oxford cloth dress shirts (short or long sleeved) in solid colors of hunter green, navy blue, white, or light blue.
- All shirts must be tucked in. If layered, both shirts must be tucked in and no designs from the undershirts should show through.
Lower Wear (Pants, Capri Pants, Shorts, Skorts, Skirts, Jumpers)
- Khaki or navy blue.
- Shorts, skorts, skirts, and jumpers must be close to the knee or lower.
Belts
- Belts may be black or brown with plain buckles and no embellishment.
Exceptions
- Exceptions to this program will be at the principal’s discretion.
Note: any item that is worn to school must not undermine the integrity of this uniform program, serve as a disruption to the educational process, or present a health or safety hazard to an individual or his peers.
Annual Opt-Out, Exemptions, and Procedures
Any student, who, together with his/her parent/guardian, is conscientiously opposed to wearing the school uniform may request an exemption in writing to the principal.
