More than 600 children from the Lynchburg City School’s strings program will hold their Mall Marathon Concert on Friday, April 1, 2011 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. This concert will take place at the River Ridge Mall between the food court and the Regal Cinemas theatre. This is the main fundraiser for the strings program. The children have asked people in the community to sponsor them as they play for three straight hours. All of the money will go towards the LCS Strings program.

The mall marathon also prepares the students for the Suzuki Strings Festival which will take place on April 11, 2011 at E. C Glass High School from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. This concert is free to the public. It begins with 2 selections by the middle and high school orchestras and moves from the advanced songs to over 500 students performing the Twinkle Variations, the first song learned in the Suzuki literature.
