February 23 at 2:30 p.m.

The February 27 performance will be signed for the hearing impaired.

Glass Theatre will delight and dazzle with this hip, tongue-in-cheek fairy tale and a cast of more than 70 talented student actors, dancers, singers, and musicians, and incredible special effects.

This musical builds its story through the use of a performance troupe that tells the story of Pippin, a young prince on his road to discover life’s secret of true happiness. First performed on Broadway in the 1970s and now in revival, this production is an exciting experience for E. C. Glass Theatre students.

“We have chosen to set this piece in the 1930s with a troupe of carnival performers. They will set the stage and draw our audience into their world,” says Tom Harris, director of drama at E. C. Glass and the director and choreographer for this production. Harris explains, “A musical like Pippin takes down the ‘fourth wall’ that traditionally separates the actor from the audience. It will be amazing as our performers interact directly with the audience.”

J. D. Stallings, technical director for Glass drama, is guiding the students as they create the set and special effects that Glass Theatre has made their hallmark. Mr. Stallings says, “Our tech theatre students are working full steam ahead. Creating the carnival atmosphere—complete with a moving train—has been a tremendous experience for them.”

Tickets for Pippin are $12 for adults and $8 for students and seniors. Advance tickets are available on the Glass Theatre website, www.ecglasstheatre.org and at Aylors Farm and Garden, Carolina Connection Dance and Body Wear, Givens Books, and Virginia Garden Supply. Tickets also will be on sale at the E. C. Glass Auditorium Lobby Box Office weekdays from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. beginning February 17th and one hour prior to each performance.

Shrek The Musical, based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks film that started it all, brings the hilarious story of everyone’s favorite ogre to life on stage.
In a faraway kingdom turned upside down, things get ugly when an unseemly ogre—not a handsome prince—shows up to rescue a feisty princess. Throw in a donkey who won’t shut up, a villain with a short temper, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you’ve got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there’s one on hand… and his name is Shrek. Featuring a terrific score of 19 all-new songs and plenty of big laughs, Shrek The Musical is part romance, part twisted fairy tale, and all irreverent fun for everyone!

Tickets for Shrek, the Musical are $10.00 for adults, $8 for students and senior citizens, plus, for the Saturday Children’s Matinee only, a special price of only $5. Advance tickets are available at www.lynchburgtickets.com.
