GOVERNOR NORTHAM UPDATE

On Friday, November 13, 2020, Governor Northam issued additional mandates in regards to face coverings and gatherings.

Updates to previous mandates include:

  • Children 5 and up must wear appropriate face coverings
  • Public and private gatherings must be limited to 25 people.

We want to reassure you that Lynchburg City Schools has already had these practices in place. Our policy adopted on October 6, 2020 states that all PreK through 12th grade students and all LCS staff must wear face coverings or masks. Our classrooms and other school spaces are already limited in the number of students and staff in one area at a time. We will continue to look very closely at all our practices to ensure we are following all recommendations and guidelines now and in the future.

TRAVEL UPDATE

Please take a moment to review this important travel update so that we can continue to make health and safety a priority for our students, staff, and families in LCS and the community.

  • Guidance: Consistent with VDH guidance, Virginia currently does not have any quarantine requirements for people arriving in the Commonwealth from other U.S. or international locations, as of October 22, 2020. Please note that this guidance may change as COVID-19 circumstances change.
  • Holiday Travel: Fall and winter celebrations may include large gatherings of families, friends, and coworkers, as well as travel that may increase risk of being exposed to COVID-19. If you plan to travel, please check with the state or local health department where you are, along your route, and where you will be visiting to get the most up-to-date information on travel restrictions, stay-at-home orders, or quarantine restrictions. Regardless of the travel destination, it is essential to maintain at least 6 feet distance from others, wear a mask, and wash hands frequently with soap and water.

We thank our families for continuing to work with us during this time. Your cooperation and support has been essential to the success of our Return to Learn plan in LCS!
