Mia Reeves, an administrative assistant and attendance clerk at Bedford Hills Elementary School, has been named the 2025-26 Lynchburg City Schools (LCS) Support Person of the Year. A leader in her school community, Reeves supports student success with her boundless optimism and solution-oriented attitude.

“LCS is proud to name Mia Reeves our division Support Person of the Year,” said LCS Superintendent Dr. Kristy Somerville-Midgette. “Ms. Reeves embodies the spirit of LCS through her creativity, dedication, and commitment to uplifting students, staff, and family members.”

From her spot at the front desk, Reeves is the first person Bedford Hills Elementary School families see when they enter the school building. She sets the tone for excellence by making everyone she encounters feel welcome.

“Ms. Reeves is deeply committed to our mission to provide a safe and productive learning environment. She serves as the primary ambassador of our school by creating a welcome atmosphere in the front office, ensuring that students, staff, and families feel valued from the moment they enter the building,” said Bedford Hills Principal Sherri Steele.

Since Reeves arrived at Bedford Hills, the school’s attendance rate has seen a marked increase. She’s implemented incentives, grade-level-based competitions, and family communication initiatives to help reduce student absences.

“Ms. Reeves understands that a child’s presence in school is the first step toward their lifelong success. She engages families with a sincere spirit of partnership to get to the root of attendance issues and offer support and solutions. She’s also developed individual, small-group, and school-wide incentives to improve attendance,” Steele said.

Reeves has also supercharged administrative processes at Bedford Hills. She’s known for her can-do attitude and problem-solving skills.

“Ms. Reeves has transformed our front office into a hub of efficiency and a beacon of school spirit. Her initiative ensures that our school runs like clockwork, and her heart ensures our students feel at home,” Steele said.

Reeves takes a relationship-centered approach to her work. She’s become an essential part of the Husky community.

“I try to be to our students what I needed when I was a kid in school—someone who’s going to go the extra mile to make sure they know that when they’re not here, they’re missed. I work hard to make students feel loved and cared for while they’re at school,” Reeves said.

Reeves is an alumna of Heritage High School, Sandusky Middle School, and Sandusky Elementary School. Her education at LCS motivated her to give back to the community that raised her.

“When I was a kid, I knew I had teachers rooting for me. It meant a lot to have somebody counting on me to do better and pushing for me to be great. That’s why I love LCS, and that’s what inspired me to pour into the LCS community the way my teachers and school staff poured into me,” Reeves said.

When she’s not with her Bedford Hills Huskies, she coaches cheer at E. C. Glass High School. Reeves was a cheerleader in middle and high school. She views coaching as a way to uplift the next generation.

“I love creating a safe space for the girls I coach. Empowering them to give back to their school by hyping everyone up and encouraging school spirit is something I live for,” Reeves said.

Reeves was nominated by school administrators and selected as the 2025-26 LCS Support Person of the Year after a competitive interview process. She will go on to apply for the opportunity to represent LCS at the state level as a Recognizing Inspiring School Employees (RISE) Award candidate.

“Ms. Reeves’ genuine care for her school community is immediately evident to anyone who meets her. Her boundless positivity, unwavering professionalism, and knack for creative problem-solving blew our selection panel away,” said LCS Chief Human Resources Officer Tiffeney Brown. “She’s a top-notch support staff member, and we’re proud to call her our LCS Support Person of the Year.”
