The Lynchburg City School Board will meet the first Tuesday of each month beginning at 5:00 p.m. in the Board Room at the School Administration Building located at 915 Court Street, unless otherwise noted. The school board will meet on the following dates during the 2019-20 school year. 

The Lynchburg City School Board will conduct Student Discipline Committee meetings as necessary beginning at 5:00 p.m. in the Board Room at the School Administration Building located at 915 Court Street.

COVID-19 Response

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Governor's state of emergency and in accordance with Va. Code § 44- 146.17, Lynchburg City School Board will conduct all upcoming school board meetings electronically until such time that the state of emergency ceases to exist.

Public Access

School Board meetings are streamed live on YouTube and televised on Comcast Channel 17 at 5:00 p.m. Meetings are rebroadcast daily on Comcast at 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m, and available online on the LCS YouTube channel.

Public Comment

In accordance with Policy BDDH Public Participation, the school board welcomes requests and comments as established in the guidelines within that policy and as modified to comply with the Governor's state of emergency. Persons or groups wishing to address the school board may do so by doing one of the following:

  1. Send a written statement to the school board clerk at meservyca@lcsedu.net. Statements will be read during the public comment section of the school board meeting.  
  2. Leave a voice message on the school board clerk's phone line at (434) 515-5077. Messages will be played during the public comment section of the school board meeting. 

Written statements and/or voice messages should include the name of the person submitting the comment, the subject of his/her remarks, and be limited to 3-minutes per individual and 5-minutes per group.  All written statements and/or voice messages must be received no later than 2 hours prior to the start of the meeting.

The purpose of the electronic special school board meeting is to address the COVID-19 emergency as it relates to school closure for the remainder of the academic year.
Section 2.2-3708.2(A.)(3) of the FOIA allows such meetings in response to a state of emergency declared by the Governor with certain limitations being imposed on such electronic meetings, including that "(i) the catastrophic nature of the declared emergency makes it impracticable or unsafe to assemble a quorum in a single location and (ii) the purpose of the meeting is to address the emergency."

Public Comments
Persons appearing before the school board will not be allowed to campaign for public office; promote private business ventures; use profanity or vulgar language or gestures; use language which insults or demeans any person or which, when directed at a public official or employee is not related to his or her official duties; engage in behavior that disrupts the meeting or intimidates others; or address the school board on issues that do not concern the services, policies, or affairs of the school board. Individual speakers shall limit their comments to three minutes. A speaker representing a group shall limit his comments to five minutes. The representative shall identify the group at the beginning of his or her presentation. A group may have no more than one spokesperson.
