During its June 3 work session, the Lynchburg City School Board approved the superintendent’s recommendation to hire four new administrators for the 2025-26 school year.
As a part of an organizational restructuring, the Department of Teaching and Learning will introduce two new leadership roles: Director of Elementary Education and Director of Secondary Education. This shift reflects a renewed emphasis on academics and student success while streamlining administrative functions and reallocating resources more efficiently.
Sarah Campbell, currently the Instructional Supervisor for Elementary of Lynchburg City Schools (LCS), has been named the Director of Elementary Education. A dedicated educator with over 25 years of experience at LCS, Campbell has served as a teacher, assistant principal, and coordinator. Her leadership in curriculum development, instruction, and professional learning has been instrumental in advancing elementary programs across the division.
Terrell Fleming will join LCS as the Director of Secondary Education, supporting middle and high school programs. He currently serves as the Coordinator for Curriculum and Instruction at Prince Edward County Public Schools and brings a diverse background as a teacher, instructional specialist, and K-12 supervisor.
“As we continue to prioritize academic achievement, it is important that we have dedicated leaders focused on supporting our schools,” said Interim Superintendent Dr. Ben Copeland. “Mrs. Campbell and Mr. Fleming bring the expertise and vision needed to help teachers and principals drive student performance forward.”
“Mrs. Campbell and Mr. Fleming are both exceptional leaders who will bring a wealth of experience to their new roles,” said Dr. Jennifer Davis, who will begin as Deputy Superintendent of Instruction this summer. “We look forward to the positive impact they will have on students in the division.”
LCS also announced two building administrators. Renee Anderson will serve as the principal for the newly established T. C. Miller Academy, which will welcome Pre-K students in the fall. Anderson currently serves as the Pre-K/Virginia Preschool Initiative (VPI) Coordinator and will continue those responsibilities as part of her new role. With over 30 years of experience in early childhood and elementary education, Anderson brings deep knowledge of Pre-K instruction and a strong commitment to early learning.
Jesse Turner has been named the next principal for Fort Hill Community School. Currently the Director of Family and Student Support for Albemarle County Public Schools, Turner brings more than two decades of administrative experience and a proven track record in enhancing student achievement and promoting a positive school culture.
