Dear LCS families,

We are working very hard to maintain open lines of communication with you. While school is closed through March 27 for students, please know we are still here for you. Each day we will reevaluate where we are and what our next steps will be.

Here are some updates we want to share with you at this time:

PICKING UP MEDICATIONS

If your child takes medication at school,  please plan to come to your school on Monday, March 16th between 11 a.m. and the normal time of your school dismissal to pick up your child's medication. The nurse will be present in the school clinic to assist you.  If you are unable to come on Monday during the designated hours please contact the school division Nurse Coordinator, Andrea Bryant at (434) 477-5968.

PICKING UP OTHER ITEMS

If your child left behind other necessary items, such as glasses or other essential things they cannot do without during the school closure, please contact your child’s school to make arrangements to pick them up by the end of the regular school day hours on Monday, March 16. Please note that it is important for us to limit the number of people in the buildings, so we are asking that you only come to pick up essential items. Things such as school instruments are not essential, and they will need to remain at the school until we reopen.

SCHOOL NUTRITION

We will utilize the USDA Summer Food Service Program to provide bagged meals during the school closure. Breakfast and lunch will be available to all children up to age 18 regardless of income. We will be delivering meals to bus stops between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, beginning tomorrow. You can also pick up the meals curbside at the following sites between 11:00 a.m. and noon:

  • Heritage High School
  • E. C. Glass High School
  • Dunbar Middle School
  • Linkhorne Middle School

Please note that USDA guidelines do not allow us to put the meals in the hands of parents or other adults to bring back to their children. Children cannot pickup for other children. Each child gets one bagged meal.

Meals will be delivered to elementary bus stops beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Monday morning. You may not necessarily pick up at your regular bus stop. You would pick up at the stop designated as the elementary school for which your address is zoned. If you have a child who attends a school outside your zone, you will still pick up at the neighborhood elementary bus stop that they would be attending based on your address. If you have children only in middle or high school, they would pick up meals at the elementary bus stop located nearest to them. (Example 1: A Dearington Elementary School for Innovation student zoned for Paul Munro would pick up at the nearest Paul Munro bus stop. Example 2: A Dunbar Middle School student would pick up at the elementary bus stop location in their neighborhood.)

For students who walk to school, the first drop off site will be directly outside the school they walk to at 11:00 a.m. All other stops would follow.  Students must be present to get the food.
