Dear LCS families,

We have a lot of exciting and important information to share with you regarding Lynchburg City Schools’ plans for more in-person instruction.

Our Return to Learn team has been working hard to determine the needs of our students while also ensuring that we continue to provide a safe and healthy learning environment.

The majority of elementary school staff who requested the COVID-19 vaccination have received it. We continue to follow the health mitigation strategies including requiring all staff and students to wear masks. Our positive COVID-19 and quarantine numbers are down. Warmer weather is on the way allowing us to open windows and use outdoor spaces for learning. New guidelines suggest that social distancing restrictions could move from 6 feet to 3 feet with effective mitigation in place, and we may be able to increase the number of students on buses.

With these latest developments, LCS is moving toward increasing in-person instruction for our youngest learners.

PREK-SECOND GRADE

Hybrid: Beginning Tuesday, April 13, all hybrid students in grades PreK-2 will attend in-person learning four days per week (Tuesdays-Fridays). On Mondays, remote learning will continue  and instruction will be delivered via SeeSaw.

Connecting: Teachers will be reaching out to families in the coming week to confirm that you will be sending hybrid students to school for four days of in-person instruction.

Transportation: If you are able to transport your child, let your child’s teacher know. This will help us to ensure we are able to transport children who would otherwise not have transportation. We will notify you prior to April 13 if there are any changes to your bus times or bus numbers.

Remote: There is no change in the instructional model for remote-only students for the remainder of the year. The remote only option remains available for all students.

THIRD-FIFTH GRADE

Currently, hybrid students in grades 3-5 will remain in their cohorts where they attend in-person two days a week. We are in conversations and actively planning to bring hybrid students in grades 3-5 back for 4 days of in-person learning on Tuesdays-Fridays starting later in the fourth quarter. A date has yet to be determined.

SIXTH-TWELFTH GRADE

Secondary schools will continue with the hybrid and remote schedule that is currently in place.

SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES

More information regarding summer opportunities will be coming in April.
