Dear LCS community,

We have some highlights to share with you from our Tuesday, August 3, 2021 meeting of the Lynchburg City School Board.

Several members of the community attended the meeting to express their concerns about the mask policy.

The School Board voted to approve revisions to Mask Policy JHCCAZ/GBEY that allows the Superintendent or Superintendent's designee to monitor and develop protocols and guidance in regards to masks and face coverings. Dr. Edwards recommended, and the Board approved, that students, staff, and visitors continue wearing masks indoors in schools regardless of vaccination status. The division will continue monitoring data and metrics of medical outbreaks in the city, state, and within the school division as a part of their decision-making protocols. This information will be discussed at each Board Meeting to guide any further decisions.

The Board approved donations from Adopt-A-Classroom (AAC). AAC partners with companies that are committed to supporting education in the communities where they do business. The funds donated assist educators and schools in securing resources that support students in their academic and social-emotional growth.

Terry Subaru partnered with Bass Elementary School to donate $3,000 to be used at each grade level (K-5) to purchase resources to support student needs.

In celebration of opening a new store in Lynchburg, Burlington is donating $5,000 to Heritage Elementary School (HES) to help the school's teachers purchase classroom supplies. HES was selected based on it being a Title I elementary school within 5 miles of the Burlington store.

See more about the discussions, actions, and information by viewing the 8-03-21 School Board Meeting on the LCS YouTube channel, and view the updated documents on the 8-03-21 Agenda.

The next School Board Work Session is scheduled for Tuesday, August 17th at 5:00 p.m. and the next School Board Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 7th at 5:00 p.m., both in the Board Room of the School Administration Building.

Thank you for supporting our LCS mission: Every Child, By Name and By Need, to Graduation!
