Dear LCS community,

We have some highlights to share with you from our Tuesday, June 14, 2022, Lynchburg City School Board Work Session.

The School Board recognized Mr. Gary Harvey, Mrs. Susan Morrison, and Dr. Michael Nilles for their years of service as School Board members as they will be retiring.

The School Board approved the superintendent's recommendation to hire Dominique Foster as the new Principal of Perrymont Elementary School. Find more information about Mrs. Foster by clicking here.

Deputy Superintendent Amy Pugh provided a presentation on the Year-end Academic Review. The percent of passing scores increased from Spring 2021 to Spring 2022 Standards of Learning (SOL) assessment in both math and reading. On average, students in grades 2-6 made one year of growth in English Language Arts (ELA), based on the IXL diagnostic assessment. Similarly, students in grades 9 and 10 made, on average, one year of growth in ELA, based on the IXL diagnostic assessment. On average, students in grades 2-6 made one year of growth in math (ELA), based on the IXL diagnostic assessment. Board members expressed concerns about the achievement of all students.

The next School Board Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, July 12 at 5:00 p.m. in the Board Room of the School Administration Building, and the next School Board Work Session is scheduled for Tuesday, July 19 at 5:00 p.m. in the Board Room of the School Administration Building.
